Brazil ANATEL Ends 1880-1920 MHz Band FDD Equipment Certification
The Agência Nacional de Telecomunicações (ANATEL) in Brazil published Ofício nº 246/2025/ORCN/SOR-ANATEL on August 20, 2025, confirming that all new and existing cellular devices (already approved or to be approved) cannot work with FDD Band 2 (1880-1920 MHz). Even for renewal processes, ANATEL confirmed that this FDD band cannot be considered.

Philippines NTC To Sunset 2G and 3G
The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) of the Philippines previously held a public consultation on August 2, 2025, to decommission 2G and 3G mobile network services. NTC published Memorandum Circular No. 003-09-2025 on August 28, 2025. The Philippines will complete the sunset of 3G services by December 31, 2026. 2G services will be decommissioned on a different schedule. NTC will issue a separate guideline regarding the phase out of mobile devices that are 2G and 3G capable.

Nigeria NCC Publishes Draft 6 GHz Band Guidelines
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has issued draft guidelines for the use of the lower 6 GHz spectrum (5925–6425 MHz) in Nigeria. The lower 6 GHz band is now available for Wireless Access Systems (WAS) and Radio Local Area Networks (RLAN) applications, including Wi-Fi 6, on a license-exempt and shared basis. However, users must apply for an Operational Licence-exemption certificate from the NCC before deployment.

The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) of Egypt sent a notice to manufacturers and importers of telecommunications devices on September 1, 2025, announcing that shipments containing cellular devices operating solely on 3G technology without higher technologies will not be type approved or imported as of October 1, 2025.
